Carlinville’s Historic Town Square

Carlinville’s historic town square has been on the National Register of Historic Places in Illinois since 1976. Over 20 buildings with cast iron and galvanized steel decorations on the storefronts make the Square a showplace of this historic turn of the 20th-century style.

The Squre is one of two sections of Illinois Route 66, which is bricked paved. The ssquate has been paved since the 1890s. The Square is the only Square shere Route 66 goes completely areond the Square.
